Privacy policy
What we collect, where it lives, how long we keep it, and how to have it removed.
Last updated: July 15, 2026
Clear Current Technologies Inc. (“Clear Current,” “we,” “us”) helps energy teams find billing errors and manage spend. This policy explains what information we collect when you use this website, why we’re allowed to, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have. Questions? Email transparency@clearcurrent.ai.
Who is responsible for your data
Clear Current Technologies Inc., 15 E. Putnam Avenue, No. 291, Greenwich, CT 06830-5415, United States, is the data controller for the personal data collected through this website. We are a US company and our services are currently directed to organizations in the United States — but wherever you’re visiting from, the rights and contact routes in this policy still apply to any personal data we hold about you. You can reach us at transparency@clearcurrent.ai.
Information you give us
We only collect what you submit through the site’s forms:
- Utility bills you upload (Upload / demo request): the bill files themselves plus your email and company. Bills can contain personal and account information such as service addresses and account numbers. We use them solely to prepare the review you requested and to reach out about a demo.
- Job applications: your name, email, links you share, an optional résumé, and anything you tell us — used only to evaluate you for a role.
Information collected automatically
Only with your consent, we use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how the site is used — pages viewed, general location and device type, referring source and campaign (UTM) parameters, and an analytics identifier. Our consent banner defaults to off: no analytics scripts load, and no analytics cookies are set, until you choose “Accept.” If you decline, we load no analytics and set no analytics cookies (we do save a small record of your choice so we don’t ask again). With the same consent, we also record the campaign/referrer that led you here so we can attribute a genuine inquiry when you submit a form — this is tied to your submission and is never sold. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time via “Cookie settings” in the footer.
Cookies & similar technologies
This is the complete list of cookies and browser storage this site can use. Only the Essential items are set without asking: they either remember your consent choice or protect the site from bots and abuse — nothing in them tracks you across sites. Everything in the “Analytics (consent)” category is set only after you choose “Accept,” and is removed if you later withdraw consent.
Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics, so we don’t ask again.
Records the date and time of your consent choice.
Bot and abuse protection — distinguishes people from automated traffic (set by our security provider, including the verification check on forms).
Security — helps apply rate limits without lumping together visitors who share a network.
Remembers the campaign/referrer that led you here, so a form submission can be attributed.
Distinguishes visitors — the analytics identifier.
Keeps GA4 session state for the site’s measurement ID.
| Name | Type | Provider | Purpose | Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| cc-consent | Local storage | Clear Current (first-party) | Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics, so we don’t ask again. | Essential | Until you clear it |
| cc-consent-at | Local storage | Clear Current (first-party) | Records the date and time of your consent choice. | Essential | Until you clear it |
| __cf_bm | Cookie | Cloudflare | Bot and abuse protection — distinguishes people from automated traffic (set by our security provider, including the verification check on forms). | Essential | About 30 minutes |
| _cfuvid | Cookie | Cloudflare | Security — helps apply rate limits without lumping together visitors who share a network. | Essential | Session |
| cc-attribution | Session storage | Clear Current (first-party) | Remembers the campaign/referrer that led you here, so a form submission can be attributed. | Analytics (consent) | Until you close the tab |
| _ga | Cookie | Google Analytics (GA4) | Distinguishes visitors — the analytics identifier. | Analytics (consent) | Up to 2 years |
| _ga_[ID] | Cookie | Google Analytics (GA4) | Keeps GA4 session state for the site’s measurement ID. | Analytics (consent) | Up to 2 years |
We treat local and session storage the same as cookies: nothing in the “consent” category is set until you accept. Google Analytics is loaded through Google Tag Manager, which only runs after you accept — before that, none of the Google cookies above exist.
Why we’re allowed to use it (legal bases)
Under the GDPR/UK GDPR we rely on the following legal bases:
- Responding to your demo, upload, or contact requests — to take steps at your request before entering into a contract, and our legitimate interest in running our business and replying to genuine inquiries.
- Job applications — to take steps at your request prior to a possible employment relationship, and our legitimate interest in evaluating candidates.
- Analytics and campaign/referrer attribution — your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- Security, spam prevention, and keeping the site working — our legitimate interest in protecting the site and its visitors.
How we store and protect it
Everything runs on Google Cloud, behind Cloudflare at the edge (which also provides bot and abuse protection). Uploaded files are held in a private storage bucket reachable only by named team members through short-lived signed links — never public. Your form submission is stored as a record in our database, and analytics events flow to our data warehouse. Data is encrypted in transit, and access follows least-privilege. When a submission comes in, our team gets a metadata-only notification (e.g. “new upload from <company>”) — the bill contents themselves are never sent to chat or email.
How long we keep it
- Uploaded bills: automatically deleted 90 days after upload via an automated storage lifecycle rule.
- Résumés: kept for up to 12 months so we can consider you for current and future roles, then deleted — sooner on request.
- Contact & lead records: kept while you are an active prospect and for a reasonable period afterwards, then deleted; removed sooner on request.
- Analytics: retained in Google Analytics for up to 14 months; raw event data in our warehouse is governed by the same principles.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell your data. We rely on a small set of service providers who process it on our behalf: Google Cloud (hosting, storage, database, analytics), Cloudflare (edge security and spam protection), and Slack (internal, metadata-only notifications — no names or email addresses). Each processes data only to provide its service to us. The maps shown on some pages are served from our own site — viewing them sends nothing to a map provider.
Where your data is processed
Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries, so your information may be transferred outside your home country. Where we transfer personal data from the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, we rely on appropriate safeguards — principally the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK Addendum) and, where a provider is certified, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. You can ask us for a copy of the relevant safeguards at transparency@clearcurrent.ai.
Your choices & rights
You can decline or withdraw analytics consent at any time via “Cookie settings” in the footer, without losing any site functionality. We also honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal: if your browser sends GPC and you haven’t made a choice yet, we treat it as a decline automatically. Consent choices expire after 12 months, at which point we ask again. Depending on where you live, you also have rights over your personal data — under the GDPR/UK GDPR these include:
- Access — a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — correct data that’s wrong or incomplete.
- Erasure — delete your data, including uploaded bills or a résumé.
- Restriction & objection — limit or object to certain processing, including anything based on our legitimate interests.
- Portability — receive data you gave us in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent — for analytics, at any time; this doesn’t affect processing that already happened.
To exercise any of these, email transparency@clearcurrent.ai. We don’t sell your personal information or “share” it for cross-context behavioral advertising. If you’re in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO) — though we’d appreciate the chance to help first.
